Saru castles : ウィキペディア英語版 | Saru castles Saru castles ((ペルシア語:قلعه های سارو); also transliterayed as Soru) are two related castles located at 10 km in north east of Semnan, Iran, on mountains of south and north of a valley called Kalâteh Sârū (, "Saru Castle") or Mazra'eh-ye Sârū (, "Saru Farm"). The northern castle, Lesser Saru (), is mostly in ruins. The southern castle, Greater Saru (), or simply Saru Castle (), is the main one and is 100 m higher than the Lesser Saru. It is relatively intact.〔 It has triple defensive outer walls and an unusually double-bend main entrance way, and features a sophisticated water catchment area. The Lesser Saru was used to defend the Kalateh Saru natural springs from which water was pumped to the main castle.〔https://books.google.com/books?id=84J1AgAAQBAJ&pg=PA52&lpg=PA52&dq=saru+castles&source=bl&ots=X5cB5HfnlD&sig=HNRXlIflPbN35q19VnxJ-VLTruQ&hl=en&sa=X&ei=FfbVVIDvD4O7ygOwgIKYCQ&ved=0CCMQ6AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=saru%20castles&f=false〕 Saru castle(s) are believed to be used by Arsacids, Dabuyids of Tabaristan, Buyids, and eventually by the Ismailis. Saru is relatevely less-researched, and is a well-preserved case to study architecture of the Ismaili castles. The castles are located at 80 km of Gerdkuh, another Ismaili castle of the Qumis region.〔http://www.semnaniha.ir/%D9%82%D9%84%D8%B9%D9%87-%D9%87%D8%A7%DB%8C-%D8%B3%D8%A7%D8%B1%D9%88/〕 It is believed that Ismailis built the current castle on the site of an earlier fortification.〔https://books.google.com/books?id=RTyTn4ErwRIC&pg=PA158&dq=eagle%27s+nest+soru&hl=en&sa=X&ei=XxLWVNaqNsnWauzCgKAD&ved=0CAoQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=eagle%27s%20nest%20soru&f=false〕 The etymology of the word ''Sârū'' () is uncertain.〔 ==References==
